About Us - the Crondall Weatherstation Equipment and Specifications

This website provides an ever changing source of weather information for Crondall, Farnham, Aldershot Fleet and the surrounding areas. The data is supplied in various formats and is currently used for:

•  - official local Weather station for the Met Office
•  - helping local residents with support for weather related insurance claims
•  - helping the Hampshire Ornithological society understand migratory patterns
•  - aiding local apiarists (beekeepers)
•  - helping understand the effect of weather patterns on the grazing patterns of cattle on Ash ranges

The raw live weather is supplied by a Davis Vantage Pro2 weather system, which is acknowledged as being one of the World's leading systems.   

The site went live towards the end of January 2006 so it will take a bit of time for full comparative data to be built up, although we do try and provide comparisons to the 30 year averages  wherever possible.

The anemometer is mounted above the roof line to give an unimpeded measurement of the wind. Thankfully Robert Hill, chimney sweep extraordinaire (01252 - 621031), was available to properly orient and secure the securing brackets.

 

Similarly the rainfall collector and temperature / humidity  / pressure measuring system is properly shielded and sited away from any major structures.  The reading should therefore be very accurate (although no guarantees or warranties can of course be given).

In any regard I've listed below a summary of the key items that are being measured and the official tolerance thresholds.

 

In looking at this data please note that these are true measurement accuracy figures and should not be confused with display resolution figures, which may be all that are quoted for some other makes of stations but which in reality have little or no relevance to accuracy and are often wildly optimistic relative to true accuracy specifications.
